Path outlined to meet direct service billing goals
"We're at a turning point on direct service goals. Dr. Southard made it
clear that no one should be punished around direct service billing. He
really wants us to work together on this to make sure we're fully
funding our services," said Hallie Carter, Medical Case Worker.
SEIU 721 members held a historic meeting with Department of Mental
Health Director Dr. Marvin Southard on February 18, 2009, about direct
service goals, the budget crisis, and the challenge of transformation.

- ID and reduce non billable hours.
- Make sure everyone has and knows how to use code books and code properly.
- Training on how to capture billable hours
- Joint labor/management training on billable hrs. and connecting to the bigger picture.
- Make good use of service area liaisons.
- Find working service area models that work and export to other places and find other best practices and train on them.
