Over the last few months, SEIU 721 members have been submitting cost saving and revenue generating ideas to the Simi Valley city manager and council. Since our membership was willing to reduce the city's deficit by $1.1 million in order to save 40 jobs it is only fair that the city really listen to our ideas.

Our ideas for reducing costs and raising revenue also include ideas that will positively impact the environment and make Simi a "greener city." A few ideas include not contracting out the city's landscaping and replace the current landscape with succulents and other desert friendly plants or rock gardens. This will save on water costs and utilize our current workforce instead of paying a private company to take care of bushes that should never have been planted in this climate.

SEIU members are the front line, we know where there is waste and we know how to increase revenue. We want to use these tough economic times to make Simi stronger including the working relationship between elected leaders and city workforce. We will be holding the city accountable for reviewing and implementing our ideas.
