Bargaining teams for MOUs 8 & 17 met Tuesday, June 29, with the CAO representative to resume talks. Once again the CAO failed to present a written response to our bargaining proposals. However, we won these commitments from CAO negotiator Errol Griffin:
-
Scheduled bargaining dates for Wednesday, July 7, 14, and 21 -
Committed to have written response to SEIU 721 team proposals as a precondition for bargaining -
Extended MOU protections while negotiations continues -
CAO’s office to give bargaining teams a budget analysis about the effect of furloughs on city services and staff. The information will allow the bargaining teams to develop proposals to mitigate service cuts in the form of furloughs. Previously the CAO’s office had only presented a historical budget analysis for FY 2009-2010.
SEIU 721 Teams to Develop Department Info Requests
In response to our demands for information about the economic impact of furloughs on employees and how positions are funded, the CAO committed to a direct response from departments. SEIU 721 bargaining teams will develop a form to go directly to departments for the information we need to bargain in good faith. That includes:
- Dollar value of furloughs by employee
- Breakdown of funding by employee (specially funded vs. general funded)
