Overview: SEIU 721 Member Leadership Development Programs

Vision for SEIU 721 Member Leadership Development Programs:
“Identify, encourage and train members to step up into the arena of 21st century unionism in or for SEIU, by providing opportunities for continuous skill enhancements in leadership roles through member-to-member outreach, trainings, mentorship and development.”
Our goal is to help develop leaders through
:
•    Continuous learning processes
•    Leader to leader coaching/mentoring
•    Teamwork, collaboration and planning
One aspect of our training program is that member leaders participate in this training as member trainers, not participants. This allows new leaders to be coached and/or mentored by a peer.

•    Family Medical Leave Act
•    New Steward Orientation
•    Grievance Handling Skills Training
•    Policies and Protocols Training (labor/management meetings, meet and confer, etc.)
•    Safety and Health
•    Meyers, Milias, Brown Act
•    Contractual Interpretation
•    Bargaining
Advanced steward training covers the following topics:
•    Advance Grievance Handling
•    Building our Political Power
•    Interpersonal Skills
•    Organizing 101
•    Public Speaking
