LACERA oversees, invests and protects LA County employees' retirement money. The County begins mailing ballots on June 18. Look for an envelope from the L.A. County Register-Recorder in your mailbox and vote right away.

ENDORSEMENTS: SEIU Local 721 has endorsed the re-election of Herman Santos to the Board of Investments and the election of Vivian Gray to the Board of Retirement.

Vivian Gray for Board of Retirement

Vivian Gray 100x100.jpg"I've been a Los Angeles County employee for 28 years. I was a Deputy Sheriff for 10 years and after several years in private practice, I returned to the County as an attorney in the Office of the Alternate Public Defender. "As county employees, we work hard to earn the secure retirement promised to us and our loved ones. But our guaranteed defined benefit pensions are under attack by anti-government ideologues and their allies in the media. "As a law enforcement officer, an attorney, a public defender and a woman of color, I've spent the past 24 years defending and advocating for civil and worker rights and I will continue to do so."

Herman Santos for Board of Investments

Herman S 100x100.jpgBesides my training as a lawyer, I've earned fiduciary certification from institutions like Stanford, Harvard and the Wharton School. But my Board experience has been my best teacher. I've learned to sharply question investment managers. After all, it's our money they want to invest."

Thank for your dedication in our representation.

I have a difficult time comprehending your ill-conceived endorsements. You endorsed David Green last year after Simon Russin initially voted for the lowering of the assumed interest rate form 7.75%. Simon lost the election sadly as a direct result of that vote and your political campaign built on free pizza. The Board of Investment in its subsequent meeting later last year eventually voted for the rate reduction to 7.50% to be gradually spread over the next 5 years. David Green played a role in that Board decision. So what possessed you to bring back the memory of Simon's initial vote which turned out to be the correct one? You forgot to mention that fac. I personally think that the rate should have been reduced to at least 7.25% as recommended by Lacera's actuary. And the contribution rates are now going up for everyone in a contributory plan. If you don't like it, transfer to Plan E. Do not support any ideas that may harm the future of Lacera and its members. Wake up, 721. The days of Union politics are over because you simply do not have a place in the future. We need representatives who are neutral and independent of the political collar and leash you don't want to let go. The people of California spoke up in a couple of key cities recently and will continue to do so. You won't be able to stop the tsunami which continues to pick up momentum.

I feel your endorsement of of Vivian Gray to LACERA Board of Retirement is not a good endorsement. Simon Russin has been on these LACERA Boards for many years and has helped to keep LACERA retirees safe and the Retirement Fund stable. Why endorse someone else who has not shown that she can or will act in our (LA County) retiree's best interest and keep us out of trouble as other Retirement systems have been?
I also think Simon would be much better than Herman Santos. What did they do to get your endorsements? Why?
I'm appalled, thats all I can say.
