- Reviewing necessary and desired professional certifications and registrations, requirements, reimbursements and fees.
- Reviewing the engineering classification series, including making recommendations for improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of citywide engineering services.
The Job Class Study Committee will adopt organizing protocols and establish timelines for its work.
The committee is made up of two members appointed from each bargaining unit, MOU 8 and MOU 17, and four members from management. The City Administrative Officer for the City of Los Angeles or his representative is also a member.
The SEIU 721 members on the committee are Christopher Johnson, Bureau of Engineering; Craig Kunesh, Bureau of Engineering; Farsheed Farhang, Bureau of Sanitation; and Bryan Low, Port of Los Angeles.
The committee is a positive step forward for SEIU 721’s bargaining units. It will ensure that professional and engineering issues within the committee’s scope will be considered during the term of the MOUs.
“The committee’s main objective is to address inefficiencies within the City of Los Angeles within the context of our jobs. If there are new job requirements, outdated job specifications, or unused positions, it will be the committee’s responsibility to redefine and repurpose those positions. By doing so we are helping city departments address their retention and recruiting issues, which reduces associated hiring and training costs and maintains institutional knowledge.”

The committee needs your input
To make the Job Class Study Committee work, the committee needs to hear from as many SEIU 721 members as possible. The committee will make recommendations and present them to the appropriate department head for consideration.
