SEIU 721 members will lose a familiar face in Southern California but gain a powerful ally for quality public services at the national level. Delegates elected SEIU 721 interim president Annelle Grajeda to a new position on the International Executive Board coordinating public-service growth nationwide.
"My life has been about fighting to get public service workers what they need to make our communities and families safer, healthier and stronger," said Grajeda. "I'm incredibly humbled by our members' support and excited to continue the new tradition of 721."
Here are some of Annelle’s accomplishments in nearly 25 years of work at SEIU 721 and its predecessor L.A. County public-service Local 660:
Helped launch SEIU 721 as a strong voice for Southern California public-service workers
Won overdue raises, retirement upgrades, L.A. County living wage
Led Measure B campaign in 2002 to save L.A. trauma centers and jobs
Now serving as State Council president representing 700,000 workers

| Next Steps for 721 Member Democracy
Over the next year, every 721 member will have opportunities to shape the new SEIU Local 721 program and bylaws before they are put to a vote. Here’s how:
STEP ONE The SEIU 721 Executive Board will review the recommendations of the Governance Work Group and adopt a set of proposed bylaws to present to SEIU 721 members for feedback and discussion. The proposals will include options for member consideration, and will be posted on the SEIU 721 website.
STEP TWO Regional Membership Conferences will be held in Los Angeles, Tri-Counties, and the Inland Area to discuss the proposed SEIU 721 program and bylaws and take action on other member priority issues.
STEP THREE Members will meet to present and discuss the proposed bylaws and program at SEIU 721 worksite meetings, steward councils, chapter meetings, and occupational councils.
STEP FOUR Based on feedback from SEIU 721 members (see above), the Executive Board will incorporate member input into the proposed bylaws before sending them back to the full membership for a formal vote.
STEP FIVE A mail ballot election will be conducted to adopt (or reject) the new bylaws.
