SEIU Members Work and Win Together
An L.A. City Airport steward reported about a Group grievance filed for an employee not receiving a meal allowance. Management had a different interpretation of the meal allowance, but the members won retroactive pay of meal allowance back to 2004 and memos were rescinded.
An Antelope Valley Department of Mental Health steward reported about an issue with the building temperature settings which were never regulated. It was either too cold or too hot. The stewards worked together and conducted their own survey with workers to find out how many times they have been ill due to temperature in building. The results were shared at a Labor Management meeting and the temperature was regulated within three days.
An L.A. County Department of Health Services Steward reported that some employees at LAC+USC won four and a half years of retroactive pay for Out of Class work. Also, 2 employees won time and back pay for Management’s abuse of placing employees on medical certification for calling in sick around the weekend or holidays.
An L.A. County Auditor/Controller steward filed grievances for Intermediate Clerk and Intermediate Typist Clerks doing Accounting Tech work (Out of Class). Workers were initially told they could not get the Out of Class bonus, but 4 employees won the grievance and won 2 years retroactive pay for Out of Class work.
