Health Care Alert for Part-Time County Workers – Are You Eligible?

If you are a part-time L.A. County employee who worked an average of 20 hours or more per week from Jan. 1 to March 31, you can qualify for a County medical plan. Part-time employees currently enrolled in a County medical plan are eligible for coverage through June 30, 2008. If you re-qualify for coverage through June 30, 2009, you will receive a Notice of Continuation of Medical Insurance in April 2008. If you do not receive a notice by May 12, 2008, call the County Employee Benefits hotline at (213) 388-9982. New hires and other part-time workers can qualify for this benefit by being in a pay status for an average of 20 hours per week for 3 consecutive months.

If you do not re-qualify, a COBRA Notice and Election Form to continue coverage will be sent to you by April 30, 2008. Under COBRA you can temporarily extend your health insurance so you and your family can stay covered.
