South Gate Members Win Big for Their City on Election Day
South Gate SEIU members worked the phones and went door to for weeks alongside South Gate cops, city officials and residents to pass Measure P. It won by a landslide with 74% of the vote and will help bridget the City's budget gap to preserve funding for public safety and city services.
A Letter to South Gate SEIU Members from Cynthia Duprey, City Employee & Co-Chair with Osie Harrell of the Measure P Campaign:
The Measure P campaign was a process of relationship and restoration for our City and its workers. I saw our City sworn officers and civilian employees coming together as a team with no regard to status, but as equals for a common cause. I witnessed the bonding of a union’s members and its staff in trust and camaraderie.
I observed the bonding of the Administration and the numerous rank and file employees as they supported each other in mutual respect. These are relationships that will far outlast any campaign.
As employees from all the City units, the mid-management, MEA, POA, PMA, sat together eating and phone banking night after night as a team, it was apparent that the walls that once divided us were not there.
Yes, Measure P was the catalyst for a much bigger change. What I witnessed was much more than a campaign.
Working together wins the day!
