As a Riverside CPS worker, I am furious over the uinion's stance preventing us from returning to a noirmal work schedule because the furlough's are costing the county more money than they are saving...Your one size fits all approach to issues sucks...CPS issues, funding are different from those of other professional bargaining units...
Hi Cati, the bottom line is employees don’t have a right to endanger the public, especially babies, so it’s not in anyone’s interest to protect workers who are exposing people to cigarette smoke. We don’t do that - in fact state law is supposed to protect people from second hand smoke and there's a law for how close you can smoke from a public building. So please don't claim that the union is protecting employees who smoke. Besides, it’s not just union employees who smoke – it’s everybody, including management and customers! What you should do is talk to a steward at your worksite about fixing the problem and getting all of your coworkers to agree to a solution. Maybe you can have a designated smoking area away from the entrance, especially since 20 feet isn’t enough. Maybe you can post signs that inform employees that smoking in that area endangers customers. It’s up to you, your coworkers and management to make these changes. You have the right to speak up!

This is a just a note!
I'am working next door from Hall Records in the City of Norwalk, Ca. and I will like to know how you guys are protecting all these employees, and you dont'n understand about HOW MUCH, LOTS OF THEM SMOK ALL DAY LONG, right by the entrance. some of them says that since they're 20' from the door, they don't care about nobody (even childrens diferent ages), which is too much. because some customers has to bring the babies with them.
