NOMINATIONS
Nominations for the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, and all seats on executive board will be accepted via petition as prescribed by the SEIU Local 721 bylaws. The term of office will run for three years.
Nominating period: Candidates may begin to gather signatures on nominating petitions on Monday January 25, 2010. All nominating petitions are due no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, February 19, 2010.
Petition signatures will be verified and if they meet the qualifications for the office sought the candidate will be notified by Monday February 22, 2010.
Blank Petitions will be available at all SEIU 721 local offices and can be downloaded from the link to the right.
As provided in the SEIU Local 721 bylaws, any member who has paid dues from February 2008 through January 2010 is in good standing and is eligible to submit a petition as a candidate for office.
ELECTION
In addition to the four (4) at-large offices, the election will fill thirty-seven (37) additional Executive Board seats. Members in Region 1 (L.A. County) will elect thirteen (13) Board members; members in Region 2 (L.A./O.C. Cities) will elect nine (9) Board members; members in Region 3 (Inland Area) will elect eight (8) Board members; and members in Region 4 (Tri-Counties) will elect seven (7) Board members.
As per Local 721 bylaws, an eight-person Election Committee has been appointed by the Executive Board to oversee the election: Arletha Wright (Region 1), Ray Rice (Region 2), Lashon Halley and Rick Gay (Region 3), and Rosie Ornelas and Ruben Juarez (Region 4).
As provided in Article 13 of the SEIU Local 721 bylaws the Executive Board election will be conducted by a third party vendor. The vendor will mail ballots to all eligible member voters on March 5, 2010. The ballots will be due back to a PO Box by 9:00 am on March 26, 2010.
In the case of a misplaced or damaged ballot, or in the case of a ballots received, a duplicate ballot may be requested by calling (213) 738-8403.
Any member who has paid dues through January 20, 2010 is eligible to vote.
Additional election rules will be available at SEIU Local 721 offices and on the SEIU Local 721 website beginning on January 25, 2010.
All Local 721 members are invited to observe the ballot count which will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the SEIU Local 721 office, 500 S. Virgil Avenue, Los Angeles, 90020 beginning at 9:00 am.
