LA City workers like Wastewater Collection Worker II Simboa Wright, above, are everywhere, every day, throughout their city, keeping it clean, safe and running smoothly. And now they are carrying an important message with them wherever they go: "Proud to Serve LA."

Simboa "stops trash from going into the public wetlands" by cleaning catch basins for the storm water program. "I like everything about my job. I've always wanted to work for the City of LA from a very young age.”

"After 22 years in the Civil Service I am very proud and honored to work for the Citizens of Los Angeles," said Nate Hall, Storekeeper II, who works in the San Fernando Valley.

80% of LA City workers recently surveyed by the Coalition of LA City Unions strongly agreed with the statement, "I am proud of the work that I do"--more than agreed with any other statement about their jobs.

Now all of the partner unions in the Coalition are distributing buttons and bumper stickers to carry this message Proud to Serve LA Button throughout the City. Soon you'll see bumper stickers and buttosn everywhere demonstrating that LA City workers are united in their pride and their commitment to their city, their jobs and in their support for their co-workers at the bargaining table.

"I have passed out an untold amount of buttons and stickered over 30 vehicles so far," said Alan Peshek, Steward and Bargaining Team member. As a General Services Storekeeper II, Alan orders parts for LAPD to keep the black-and-whites on the road. "I feel a great sense of pride in helping the city," he said. "This is the first job I ever enjoyed coming to every day. We all get along and get our jobs done. Everybody helps out when needed."

Show your pride! Wearing the buttons or placing the bumper stickers on city vehicles is protected by Supreme Court decisions and extensive past practice.

Contact your Union Steward or Rep to get a supply of buttons and bumper stickers to pass out at your worksite. Or call the Union hall at 213-482-6660.
