Ridley-Thomas Leads By Wide Margin in Simulated Campaign

MRT with SEIU 721 members 2The poll, which was conducted by David Binder Research in mid-March on behalf of an alliance of community and worker groups, shows Ridley-Thomas with less initial name recognition than his primary opponent, but after a series of positive and negative statements about both candidates, Ridley-Thomas jumps to a lead of 22 percent.

Voters polled are likely participants in the June 3 election to replace Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke and responded positively to Ridley-Thomas’ position and background in a number of key areas such as working on alternatives to gangs, reducing drug-related crimes and promoting affordable housing.

The poll results come on the heels of the launch of a major effort by workers and community members to elect Ridley-Thomas to the Board of Supervisors. Working in coalition as the Alliance for a Stronger Community, hundreds rallied Saturday followed by the first precinct walk and phone bank in which volunteers began calling and knocking on the doors about the election. Get-out-the-vote efforts will continue until the election.
