Over 200 social services workers who serve some of Santa Barbara County’s most vulnerable residents rallied Oct. 9 at the County Government Center, calling on the Board of Supervisors for a fair contract that helps attract and retain quality employees.
Joining SEIU 721 members was a large contingent of City workers who are members of our sister union, SEIU Local 620.
As caseloads continue to grow and wages and benefits fall further behind, more and more social workers, eligibility workers, career employment specialists, probation assistants, public defender investigators and medical service representatives who provide important services that help county residents succeed are seeking employment outside the county.
The union contract covering nearly 500 Santa Barbara County employees expired on October 7.
