Shawn Terris Wins Re-Election to Retirement Board in a Landslide

SANTA BARBARA – In a victory for working families, SEIU’s endorsed candidate Shawn Terris received 73 percent of all Santa Barbara County employee votes and will remain on the County Retirement Board.  

According to unofficial results from the ballot count, 1,546 votes were cast – up nearly 40 percent from the last election making it the highest voter turnout for the County board ever.

“In the end, this election was won based on integrity and the truth.  ‘We The People’ prevailed!" Terris said.

Terris received 1,188 votes while her opponent, Theo Fallati, who was endorsed by Supervisor Joni Gray and Audit-Controller Bob Geis, received 418 ballots. 

Terris promised to continue to serve working people through transparency and continued solvency of the Santa Barbara Retirement Board.  Terris also serves as the president of the State Association of County Retirement Systems.

Attorneys representing SEIU Locals 620 and 721 are awaiting a response to a letter filed with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney on Nov. 29.  The letter requested an investigation to apparent violations of law during the conduct of this election.

SEIU Locals 620 and 721 represent more than 4,000 workers in Santa Barbara.
