Animal control officers represented by SEIU 721 recently led a representative from the CEO’s office on a tour of the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter.
Despite the shocking evidence of overcrowded, unsafe, and unsanitary conditions at the shelter, the CEO denied our formal request for safety gear — without addressing our evidence. SEIU members will appeal this decision and plan to raise the issue in contract negotiations this year.
“Our shelters are overcrowded and unsafe for animals and employees, but the County is still pretending there are no problems. They need to open their eyes,” said Animal Control Officer Luis Villegas.
