Injury Shouldn’t Be Part of the Job for Animal Workers: Report Health Risks

In the past we might not have reported injuries because they seemed like part of the job. But foot injuries and safety risks should not be part of the job.

Did you know? California law requires foot protection for workers who are “exposed to foot injuries from electrical hazards, hot, corrosive, poisonous substances, falling objects, crushing or penetrating actions, which may cause injuries or who are required to work in abnormally wet locations.”

Report All Injuries and Risks to SEIU and the County: Two Steps Forward for Boots

It’s essential that animal care employees document the answers to these questions:

Have you suffered any injuries or witnessed an injury that involved improper safety equipment? Have you faced any risky situations even if you were not actually injured?

LA County management has told workers that wearing black boots is mandatory.
Who told you? When? What did that person say specifically?

1. Contact SEIU 721 worksite organizer Eloy Alvarez at (213) 321-2531.

2. Then make sure to report any injuries and potential injuries to Health and Safety Officer Patricia Learned at (562) 256-1362.
