I recently spent a day through SEIU’s Walk a Day in My Shoes program with a representative from Supervisor Gloria Molina’s office, showing her the challenges we face every day.

I was on duty when I got a difficult Immediate Response call. We spent nine hours out in the field investigating, went back to the home twice and talked to the mother, child and the police. She couldn’t believe that we go out alone. The child’s mother was very upset but I was able to calm her down.

I don’t think the County knows the obstacles that we encounter. But today was really positive. Supervisor Molina’s office experienced exactly what we do.

I have done emergency response for two years. I like the challenging parts of working with kids and families.
