LA Library Workers Win Funding for Families

When SEIU 721 members learned that LA County was releasing Library Aides and Pages in large numbers for “budgetary reasons,” we presented a better way to solve the budget problems: using President Obama’s Economic Stimulus funds to preserve part-time employees at community libraries.

Library workers collected 5,500 signatures to convince the Board of Supervisors to take our proposal seriously and the Board did! Supervisor Molina’s motion directs the CEO, DPSS and the Library Department to use Federal Stimulus dollars from the TANF Contingency Fund to avert employee layoffs.

Make sure your job is eligible for new funding

Library management will be circulating a simple one-page application starting the week of August 24.

Q: Is my job eligible for federal TANF funding?
A: All library aides and pages who have children under the age of 18 and have income at or below 200% of federal poverty level
