What Will It Cost to Close California Courts?

Courts-Closed-Graphic_240x180.jpgCalifornia’s courts stayed open even during the Great Depression. But 3 million cases will be delayed as some of the nation’s busiest courthouses go dark on Wednesday, September 16.

Court employees are taking a stand for public safety and speaking out to the media.

“People who are in jails will be in there longer without a hearing or a trial, costing the county money and further overcrowding our jails. Criminal cases will be dismissed because of missed timelines,” Annette Ruiz-Vides, Fiscal Office Specialist in San Mateo County.

Court employees will gather outside the closed offices of the Administrative Office of the Courts in San Francisco to raise questions about billions of dollars in spending on a new computer system and new courthouses as public services suffer.
