Health Care Reform: What’s Inside that 2,000 Page Bill Anyway?

Thumbnail image for stethoscope.jpgMajor provisions of the nation’s new health care reform laws are set to take effect today.
SEIU members, community leaders and policy makers will mark this historic moment on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Los Angeles with a conference featuring frank discussions of how the landmark legislation will reshape the future of Los Angeles County’s public health care safety net.

“This event will provide the knowledge that SEIU members
will need to understand what is in the health care legislation, and think about how it may affect the health of their patients and their organizations.”
–Dylan Roby of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, who will be the event’s keynote speaker.
Other speakers at the event include Jim Mangia, President and CEO of St. John’s Well Child & Family Center and Dr. Robert K. Ross, president and chief executive officer for The California Endowment.
The event will also feature workshops designed to give participants a leg up on the new legislation.
Though many participants say they’re attending the summit to learn more about how health care reform will change their jobs and workplaces, others have said they just want to know more about what’s inside the 2,000-page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
