Tentative Agreement Reached with City of Riverside

Riverside_City_Barg_Team_2013_595px.jpgAfter months of negotiations, the SEIU 721 City of Riverside bargaining team and Riverside management have reached a tentative contract agreement that includes increases in salary and employer contribution to healthcare. Plan to attend one of the Wednesday, Oct. 23 meetings to find out more about the tentative agreement.

Highlights of the agreement include:
• Increase in employer contribution to healthcare
• Salary increases in each contract year (swap into PERS for tier 1)
• Improvement and strengthening of contract language
• Change in definition of “hours worked” for overtime calculation
• Three (3) year term

Copies of the tentative agreement will be available for members to review at the Oct. 23 worksite meetings.

The team will hold site visits on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to provide members details on the proposed agreement. The team recommends a YES vote for ratification of the TA.

  4. I understand there is going to be a meeting but why isn’t there a detailed explanation on this site. Then we can be informed and be prepared with questions we may have.

  5. can someone please explain to me why its such a good deal for us to start paying twards our retirement now ,5 years early.the city pays it now,so if we take over and start paying early ,then the city dont have to.seems like the city bennifits from this contract more than we do.why cant we get a little raise now and worry about paying into retirement on the next contract,wich will be still two years before mandated,and maybe the economy will be in even better shape.?????and why clean up sick time or hours worked????whats the prob.if someone is abusing then punnish them.im no expert but this whole thing sounds onesided.

  7. We should go after Jerry Brown for taking away a negotiated item from years ago, in lieu of raises. The City should be paying us the PERS portion as agreed in an earlier negotiation come 2017 plus giving us raises to cover cost of living. Why hasn’t that been discussed. The percentage that is going to PERS was negotiated and is ours already, so they should continue to pay that even after 2017, as salary if not in PERS because of Jerry Brown. Our City cries poor, until they are negotiating with the Police and Fire and then suddenly the purse strings start to open.

  8. I’m a little behind, but I agree with Blue Room. This giving up a raise to pay for our retirement contribution WHEN IT IS NOT EVEN REQUIRED makes no sense at all!

    On top of that, when the City started paying our retirement contribution, it was done in lieu of a raise. So now we are giving up raises in order to pay for a raise we received before. How is this a good deal to anyone but the City? Another thing that makes absolutely no sense.

    To make this right, I would be OK with the City paying us our 8% (that was negotiated for many years ago) now, then taking it back for the retirement contribution, as in effect that is really what we have. Then any raise increase we get from here on out will actually be a raise increase.

    Something is very fishy in SEIU land, that they are forcing this on us as if it is a good deal.
