SEIU Local 721 Latino Caucus Statement on the Migrant Deaths in San Antonio

The SEIU 721 Latino Caucus  issued the following statement on the Migrant Deaths in San Antonio

“Our union and the Latino Caucus mourn the tragic and avoidable migrant deaths in San Antonio, Texas. To date, 53 migrants have died, in one of the deadliest human smuggling incidents in U.S. history.

The horrific tragedy points to the failure of our current unjust immigration system, and its cruel policies that endanger the lives of migrants seeking refuge in the U.S. Our country cannot continue dehumanizing our migrant brothers and sisters by avoiding true comprehensive immigration reform.

Now more than ever, we need our Federal elected leaders to step up and restore our asylum system and dismantle Title 42, to ensure that this tragedy is never repeated.

Our organizations are committed to fighting for our migrant brothers and sisters, wherever they may come from, and for a humane comprehensive immigration reform.”
