The LA City Council Approved Our 1-year MOU!

We did it!

We overwhelmingly ratified our new 1-year MOU this past November, and the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to approve the contract.

Dozens of our SEIU 721 member leaders, including our union Vice-President Simboa Wright and LAPMA President Bob Potter, came out to LA City Hall in support of our MOU, along with other members from the Coalition of City Unions.

While the public comment segment was cut short during the meeting, we were able to make our voices heard in support of our MOU.

“My brothers and sisters have been through a lot in the last couple of years dealing with this pandemic,” said Animal Control Officer Angelina Leranes at the podium.

“But our services have been consistent. We’re there for our animals and the public. I am asking for your approval,” she added.

Our new 3% raises are set to kick in on January 1, 2023, and we will receive our one-time 5% cash bonus on July 26, 2023.

On top of that, we also protected the 40 hours of personal leave and ensured that June 19th (“Juneteenth”) of each year will be recognized as a permanent paid day off for City employees.

Now that the LA City Council has approved the MOU, our elected Bargaining Teams will return to the bargaining table to negotiate unit and classification bonuses, inequities, and salary notes for this 1-yr contract.

Please stay tuned for updates.

When we fight, we win!
