Inland Area Office Dedicated to Serve Families in the Region

With a prayer given by SEIU 721 member Jim Clizbe and remarks by SEIU 721 President Bob Schoonover, the Inland Area Regional SEIU 721 office was dedicated on Saturday, January 12, 2013, in Riverside. Newly elected U.S. Congressman Mark Takano and State Assembly member Jose Medina did the honors of revealing an etched plaque marking SEIU 721’s dedication to help improve the lives of working families and the community, while over a hundred members and guests spilled into the hallway from the member lounge, lobby and conference room to get a peak.

“This building marks years of planning and vision by our members. We have come a far way from the office on Market street and this new building will provide members and staff a safe place to meet and offers future growth for this region.”Bob Schoonover, SEIU 721 president
Members and their families, community partners and elected officials enjoyed refreshments in the main conference room while they chatted with representatives from the 721 Member Connection, learned about various caucuses, signed up to get involved with the newly organized Riverside County Leadership Council, and participated in raffle prize drawings. Others took advantage of the state of the art member resource lounge by catching a glimpse of playoff football while munching on hot popcorn and children played in a room outfitted especially with toys for them.

“The open house offered everyone a glimpse into the vast possibilities ahead of us in the Inland Area. This new building is a perfect example of listening to the concerns of our membership and putting them into action to build a union hall that every SEIU 721 member can be proud to call home.”Wendy Thomas, Inland Area regional vice president
After remarks by Takano and Medina, both who praised members for their hard work on their respective campaigns, Manuel Perez, state assembly member from 56th District, presented the Local with a certificate of recognition from the California State Assembly. Other elected officials that attended the open house included Marion Ashley, Riverside County Supervisor; Riverside City Council members Steve Adams, Paul Davis and Mike Gardner; Virniecia Green-Jordan, Perris Elementary School District Board member, and representatives for Jeff Stone, Riverside County Supervisor; and Richard Roth, California State Senator.
