Maywood City Workers Continue to Deliver High Quality Services

Maywood-City-Hall.jpgThe City of Maywood has announced its decision to contract city services to Bell and the LA County Sheriff’s office, while laying off the Maywood city workers who currently provide those services.
Maywood deserves the continuity of high quality services provided by an experienced workforce who knows and cares about the city. So SEIU 721 has negotiated an agreement with Maywood to ensure that most city workers will have the opportunity to continue to serve Maywood residents. Maywood city workers are dedicated to delivering the highest quality service at the best value for residents.
“Maywood doesn’t just have a budget crisis,” said Bob Schoonover, President of SEIU 721, “It has a credibility crisis as a direct result of misguided police tactics and poor decision-making by past city leaders. But the city’s 45,000 residents shouldn’t suffer because of the decisions of past city and police leaders. Maywood is the first California city to take this extreme step, and it should be the last. This is an example of failed leadership–not a model for other cities.”
Maywood’s longtime city workers are proud of their service and those who are able to continue with the city will do their part to rebuild confidence in Maywood.
