Psychologist, City of Hemet
In June, I will participate in a seven-day ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles as part of the AIDS Lifecycle 10th Anniversary Ride to End AIDS. Each participant is asked to raise money to provide critical services to people living with HIV and AIDS.
As an SEIU 721 member in the City of Hemet, I turned to the Lavender Caucus, a group within SEIU 721 that is committed to serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender union members and their families through education, outreach and visibility.
I reached out for help and the Lavender Caucus responded in a big way. With the monetary support of family, friends, coworkers and the Lavender Caucus, I’m well on my way to reaching my goal of raising $3,000 for AIDS Lifecycle.
I knew reaching my goal wouldn’t be easy, but I also had faith that there might be a lot of people including SEIU 721 members who care deeply about this issue and could help. In the process, I’ve gained the support of members in the Lavender Caucus and learned how I could be more active in the union. It was the perfect match.
I can’t wait to represent SEIU’s Lavender Caucus on my bike jersey and join the trenches with other workers as we fight for a just society.
