Employee Relations Board Denies Attempt to Toss Out Votes in the Election

The LA City Employee Relations Board rejected EAA and postponed a decision yesterday regarding whether to count hundreds of ballots received by the post office but bearing no postmark. EAA wants the ballots voided.

The Board appears likely to rule to open the remaining ballots at its next meeting on June 22.

Michael Hunt of MOU 17, who served as an official election observer during the 26-hour ballot count earlier this month, implored the Board to count the ballots and conclude the decertification election as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, as the City Council took up the Mayor’s proposed budget, L.A. City workers appealed to the Council for early retirement incentives and prudent restructuring. More than 900 city employees — including dozens represented by EAA — filled the streets in front of City Hall to protest the Mayor’s proposed layoffs and furloughs and urge the Mayor to resume discussions on early retirement incentive programs.
