Simi Valley Members Vote on Budget Crisis Plan
After several months of negotiations, SEIU 721 Simi Valley workers overwhelmingly voted to accept a 53-hour furlough in order to save 40 jobs and preserve city services to the public. This is equivalent to 2 percent salary compensation for 12 months for the workers. According to the City Manager, all workers for the city will be taking a “2%” cut in different ways including exempt and safety employees.
In the coming months, SEIU members will be meeting with each of the city council members individually about the cost saving and revenue generating ideas that workers submitted to them. Workers will publicly hold officials accountable to implementing them as soon as possible.
