Ventura County Workers Call on Governor to be Leader on Budget

Budget-Rally_Ariana-Barajas_Ventura-County_240x160.jpgWith just a few hours left until California begins issuing IOUs to seniors, people with disabilities, college students, and others, SEIU members at a press conference in Ventura County urged the Governor to sign a compromise budget now. “The Governor has asked us all to share in the sacrifice,” said Lupe Montaño, Service Coordinator for Tri-Counties Regional Center, who attended the event. “But he is threatening a veto that will devastate small businesses and inflict more pain on the most vulnerable in our communities. It’s time for him to be a leader and sign this budget.” Martha-Mares-and-Mariano-Enriquez_ventura-county_240x160.jpgToday’s event was one of several taking place simultaneously across the state in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, and Riverside, building support for a solution and calling the Governor to solve the budget crisis. At the end of the rally, members generated more than 50 calls into the Governor’s office telling him to choose compromise over catastrophe.
