Santa Ana city workers with SEIU 721 on Thursday voted down the city’s proposal that stubbornly insisted on lopsided sacrifices from SEIU members despite our own proposals that would have saved the city close to $4 million.
City workers had proposed savings, early retirements that could prevent
the economic devastation of further layoffs, and no-cost language to
protect worker security, but management insisted instead on further
compromises from SEIU, despite 721 having sustained dozens of layoffs
impacting needed services to residents.By over a 2-1 margin Santa Ana members followed their Chapter Board’s recommendation to reject management’s uncompromising approach to solving its budget crisis.
There’s no expectation that the vote will bring management back to the table. They’ve made it clear they’re not interested in further discussions.
