Two Major Riverside County Unions to Work Together Closely

Leaders of the two largest county unions have announced they will work together to ensure a secure retirement for county employees.

The commitment is historic and includes the creation of a committee with representatives from both SEIU 721 and LIUNA Local 777.

In a letter to county employees, Stephen Switzer, LIUNA business manager, and Steve Matthews, regional director for SEIU 721, write:

“We understand that among many of us, there is a sense of sad inevitability regarding the future of your pensions. The two of us want to make it clear that we do not accept that, and neither should you. We have a choice. We can act as victims, or we can act as two Unions united with a sense of purpose and a sense of our collective strength. We choose the latter.”

The committee will post regular updates on all of its activities online and at regularly scheduled union meetings.
