SEIU 721 is proud to stand with President Obama as he takes administrative action to enable millions of families to live without fear of deportation and to come out of the underground economy and raise their voices without fear of retribution.  “Our families and communities need solutions and President Obama has taken bold action where Congress has failed to act,” said Gilda Valdez, Chief of Staff, SEIU Local 721. “Our 50,000 members–social workers, nurses and other service city and county providers–are on the frontlines working with immigrant families. What’s more, many of them are immigrants themselves. Our members understand that healthy, thriving communities can only be realized when ALL members are fully included in our economy, schools, neighborhoods, small businesses and everyday lives.”
Unfortunately, conservative Republicans in Congress have threatened to shut down the federal government, sue the President, or block funding to stop administrative action from happening.

“Republican leaders in Congress need to stop playing politics with people’s lives,” said Valdez. “Instead of working for meaningful immigration reform, they’ve become the party of inaction and interference. Those of us who are rolling up our sleeves and working to Fix our LA city and county communities and our nation won’t forget their actions when we cast our ballots in 2016.”
