Victory! City of Long Beach Refuse Operators Vote to Join SEIU 721

After months of organizing, City of Long Beach Refuse Operators voted to join SEIU Local 721 by an overwhelming landslide. Their unity and determination throughout the process helped deliver a landmark victory for frontline workers and the residents they serve.

Together with the over 95,000 members of SEIU 721 – including City of Los Angeles Sanitation members – City of Long Beach Refuse Operators now have unparalleled strength and experience backing them up at the bargaining table.

Now that they’ve won their union election, they will immediately begin the process of bargaining a new, strong contract that uplifts their work and their families.

First up, they will begin the process of nominating and electing their member-led bargaining team. Once assembled, the team will work with SEIU 721 staff to compile bargaining surveys, tabulate the results, and determine priorities in negotiations.
