Statement by SEIU 721 President David Green about the Tragic Death of our Transgender Union Member Day Rodas

SEIU 721 President David Green issued the following statement following the tragic death of Day Rodas:

“All of us at SEIU 721 are stunned to learn about the death of one of our own, Day Rodas. She worked at the LGBT Center in West Hollywood and she was a member of our Union. Our hearts are broken, having lost a member of our Union family.

Authorities have not ruled out foul play in her case. As such, we at SEIU 721 insist on a thorough and exhaustive investigation, particularly since Day Rodas identified as a trans woman – and acts of violence against transgender people in the US have been on the rise. Our Union family will not stay silent while this trend grows.

All of us have the right to live in dignity and safety. This includes our transgender communities – and for the six short months that Day Rodas enjoyed living out as a trans woman, this included her, too.

Day Rodas should still be with us. She is still in our hearts as we seek answers, and justice, for her death.”
