Statement from SEIU 721 President David Green on the death of Tyre Nichols:

“SEIU Local 721 members send deep condolences to the family and friends of Tyre Nichols. Nichols’ death was unnecessary; he should be alive today.

The horrific behavior of the officers in the video released last week underscores the need for significant reforms to our criminal justice system and the need for accountability when police harm the people they have sworn to serve.

Until we see reform, SEIU 721 members — who are largely people of color — will continue to fight alongside movements for justice.”
