Social Workers, Eligibility Workers, and Other SEIU 721 Members are Sounding the Alarm on Imminent Harm to Our County’s Safety Net with Cuts to Our Community Services. Members Say “ZERO LAYOFFS”
SANTA BARBARA – Hundreds of social workers and eligibility workers are sounding the alarm on Santa Barbara County’s plan to balance its budget on the backs of essential workers, and at the expense of our social services safety net.
Dozens of members will speak out at the next Board of Supervisors meeting to show how dangerous these unnecessary cuts would be.
There is no countywide budget crisis. There is a surplus. We are demanding that the County provide funds to the Social Services Department, which is in a deficit, to invest in frontline services our communities rely on. The County is currently planning on using funds that could go to the Social Services Department to instead be used to update the County jail.
