Victory at the LAWA Commission!

In case you missed it, we turned out in full force to yesterday’s Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Commission meeting at LAX.

We stood union strong to demand a “NO” vote on a motion that would have granted LAWA CEO John Ackerman uninhibited power at our airports in the name of “safety,” including the power to contract out our good union jobs.  We emphatically said hell no and they heard us loud and clear!

At the umpteenth hour, and because of our union worker power, the motion was dropped. Despite the great news, we didn’t relent in giving the LAWA Commission and airport leadership a piece of our mind at the podium.

Dozens of our LAX member leaders made scathing public comment and spoke out against contracting out and the short-staffing crisis at the airports. We know all too well that privatization threatens the vital services our members provide, and our good paying union jobs.

With the World Cup and Olympics around the corner, LAWA cannot put our vital services in jeopardy and must commit to staffing up with good union jobs, and nothing less.

We’re going to keep organizing and fighting to protect our workers and fix the short staffing crisis.

Please stay tuned for more breaking news and be prepared to take more action to bring the workplace changes that we need and deserve.
