LA City Members Count the Votes

LA-Ratification-Vote-Count_JR_10222009-010-Web.jpgSEIU 721 LA City members on Thursday night 10/22 counted the votes cast on the Early Retirement Incentive Program and the Tentative Agreement. Other members have arrived to watch the vote count.
The ERIP and TA ratification will not be fully decided until all of the Coalition bargaining units have tallied their members’ votes, sometimeFriday 10/23. An announcement will go out Friday night with SEIU 721’s results as well as those of the entire Coalition.
Once again, turnout for the SEIU 721 vote has been high. Members on both sides of this difficult choice made their voices heard by meeting, debating, and organizing among their co-workers for their point-of-view. This is what keeps our union strong.

  1. For those of you who held your breathe in anticipation of the vote after reading these blogs… I think the results will show that critics with axes to grind tend to post more than those of us who have been confident, aware of the facts, and have an understanding of unions and their functions from day one.

We should all step back for a moment and think, why wouldn’t the union have all of our best interests in mind when negotiating? The fact is: The union did and always has from my first days after probation to my 8 years of service with the city. I became a steward to give some back and encourage others to do the same. I tell people I am an SEIU member with PRIDE!

For those of you who did not want this to pass… It will! You can watch it on Channel 35 next week!

Kudos to SEIU 721 and the coalition for a brilliant plan! Not giving up! Controlling rumors! Winning a victory for all of us!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Now get some rest… We live and work to fight another day!

  2. Wake up jake. It was destined to pass no matter who voted or how they voted. The Union is a BUSINESS. Talk to the observer who saw something in the voting tabulation that was not the way it was supposed to be and called them on it. Then ,THEY called the cops and had him escorted out of building. Freedom of speech? Not even if you pay dues. I’m sure they’ll spin it another way. But, that’s what happened. Question Authority, Period.

  3. So Mr. Blog Director, only positive comments about the union get posted here? Awesome. It’s good to know that censorship in any form is still alive and kicking at the good ol’ SEIU!
