Thousands of City engineers and professional employees represented by the Engineers & Architects Association (EAA) have been taking steps since summer 2008 to switch to SEIU 721.
“We finally have a union that represents us.”
–Steven Kehrmeyer, Civil Engineer, Bureau of Street Lighting (MOU 17)
As they celebrated the board’s decision, members of the City’s professional engineering unit (MOU 8) and supervisory professional unit (MOU 17) said they looked forward to working together with all of their City colleagues to make real improvements.
The City has indicated it will be ready to go to the bargaining table with SEIU 721 within 10 business days.
“It’s time to roll up our sleeves and work for a better contract. We’re one family now.”
–Robert Sanchez, Civil Engineering Associate II, Public Works Engineering (MOU 8)
Many of the nearly 1,500 employees in MOU 8, the City’s professional engineering unit, voted in a mail-ballot election that concluded in October 2009.
More information will be available soon, and a series of SEIU meetings and events for MOU 8 and 17 members will be announced shortly.
