We are in a recession and communities like El Monte are under stress. While this may seem like a short-term solution, in the long run a Walmart in El Monte will drive out local business and create more low paying jobs that will ultimately hurt our economy and working families. We support growth in the community that adds good paying jobs with benefits.
We welcome free speech and individuals including those in our organization can express their opinions, but as the elected representative and voice of 80,000 members of SEIU Local 721, we affirm our position and do not support Walmart in El Monte.”
