Hundreds of Riverside Workers Press County Officials to Implement Cost Savings Instead of Cuts
More than 750 SEIU 721 members attended a June 29 membership meeting and are continuing to pressure Riverside County officials to implement millions in cost saving efficiencies instead of making drastic cuts to public services.
"SEIU 721 members are public safety too," social worker Jill Johnson-Young said. "We respond to injured or abused seniors, we fight pandemics and prevent infectious diseases and we keep children safe when they face danger."
As part of the public safety net, SEIU 721 members reminded county officials to prioritize public services as a vital element in protecting the public.
"Our ability to do our jobs the best way we know how is being challenged by severe cuts," Johnson said. "We urge the county to implement cost savings first - that is what it means to be fiscally responsible."
