"Without members' contributions, we won't have as strong of a union voice," she says. "After all, it's our union."
Leticia Rodriguez, a WIC nutrition specialist at Watts Health Center in South Los Angeles, recently volunteered for the National Organizing Corps (NOC).
"The union is not a building or staffit's us, the membership," she says.
Randy Ortiz, an ambulance medical technician at Hubert H. Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center in Los Angeles, just recently volunteered for the program.
"I want to help build SEIU Local 721 by doing things that I'm able to do," he says.
Miguel Calderon, who works at Watts Health Center, says that as a community health provider, being in a union has made a positive difference for patients and for himself. He volunteered as a way to give back.
"I wanted to help other clinic employees make improvements for themselves, and help educate them about my union."
