Social Workers Say Car Seats, Supervisor Delivers

Chatsworth Social Workers with New Car SeatsIt makes sense that children’s social workers need car seats to do their jobs, right?

But when LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky spent the day with children’s social workers in the Chatsworth DCFS office they informed him there weren’t enough car seats to go around.

“Car seats?” he said.

“Yes, car seats,” social workers reiterated.

Yaroslavsky promised to get the office the equipment they needed and last week dozens of car seats arrived in Chatsworth.

“With one visit we exposed him to our work and he helped get us safe and needed equipment,” said Chatsworth social worker Deborah Keyser, MSW.

And, now all DCFS offices can request car seats.

“An email went out to each DCFS office in the county asking how many car seats they had and what their expiration dates were. Some other regional offices have already received their requested car seats too. With just one visit to one regional office, we were able to make an impact countywide. Thank you Mr. Yaroslavsky!!!!!” Keyser said.

Yaroslavsky met with workers as a part of our “Walk a Day in My Shoes” program to expose lawmakers to the work we do and the obstacles and successes SEIU members have every day.
