After months of calling on Watts Healthcare Corp. to negotiate a fair contract that includes affordable health care for them and their families, community health workers at Watts Healthcare Corp. in South Los Angeles voted 96-11 on Sept. 16 to approve a tentative contract agreement that contained no cuts to health coverage.
Frontline caregivers at the community clinic had faced stagnant wages and rising health care costs–just like the patients and participants they work with every day.
Contract highlights:
-
100% health care coverage for individuals with no increased out-of-pocket costs for family coverage. (Earlier management proposals contained dramatic increases in employees’ out-of-pocket costs for family health coverage.)
-
Immediate wage increases for a majority of employees

“It was exciting to see how involved members were in settling this contract. Having so many come and vote shows that our hard work really paid off.”
