SEIU 721 members teamed up with the Home Defenders League Dec. 16 in Los Angeles to “Stand Up for the American Dream.” As thousands of hardworking families with stable incomes and the ability to pay a mortgage lose their homes each month to foreclosure, homeowners from across the state are coming together to fight back and win changes to the policies of the nation’s largest banks.
Twenty-two people were arrested in downtown Los Angeles on Dec. 16 while blocking the doors of the downtown Chase Bank and demanding that Chase discontinue unfair foreclosure practices that are impacting our members and communities.

“I have filed my paperwork. I work two jobs. I am doing everything I need to be doing. The government gave Chase bailout money, so why can’t the banks do their their job and modify my loan?”
-SEIU 721 member Lindora Horn (who is being evicted from her home), City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks
“I came to protest the injustice of the banks. They are destroying the lives of our members and ruining our communities. As members of a union, we have to stand up to the banks.”
-Rosie Martinez, retired Los Angeles County Public Health Nurse, SEIU 721 member
