SEIU 721 Clarifies Use of Official Union Communication Channels to Inform Members of Endorsements

Los Angeles, CA—SEIU Local 721 Chief of Staff Gilda Valdez made the following statement today in response to reports that a Palm Springs city employee used his individual email account to promote support of Measure D, a half-cent sales tax that Palm Springs voters will consider at their upcoming election on November 8, 2017:

“SEIU Local 721 is officially on record in support of Palm Springs’ Measure D and our stance remains unchanged. However, our entire membership should be aware that any and all official communication by our union endorsing either a ballot measure or a political candidate will always be sent through SEIU Local 721’s official communications channels – including SEIU721.org website articles, emails, text messages and social media feeds.

SEIU Local 721 was unaware that an individual work email account was utilized to promote support for an endorsed measure.

Our Executive Board approves our endorsements and all official notices on endorsements will always be delivered to our membership via our official SEIU Local 721 communication channels. We encourage members to visit www.seiu721.org for all official updates.”
