“We need more PPE!” – LA County DPH, it’s time to make our demand. Sign the petition!

We’re living in the new epicenter of the national COVID-19 pandemic but you wouldn’t know it given the lack of basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) we’re enduring on the frontlines at the LA County Department of Public Health. It’s been more than three months since California’s first COVID-19 shutdown yet top county management continues dragging their feet on getting us the basic protections we need to do our jobs. Already some of our Brothers and Sisters at SEIU 721 have become sick. A few actually have paid the ultimate price.

We all saw the wall-to-wall news coverage back in May when Celia Marcos, a nurse working at the Kaiser Permanente facility in East Hollywood, died after bravely treating a COVID-19 patient without proper PPE. Images from her vigil went nationwide.

Yet even after she sacrificed her life, all of us on healthcare’s frontlines are still going without – including us at LA County’s DPH. It could be us next. It’s unacceptable! And it’s not going to change unless we take action immediately.

We’ve been more than patient and the situation is clear: If we don’t take serious action to demand the PPE we need, we’re not going to get it. So, let’s demand it! Join us now so we can send a clear message of our own.

LA County’s entire public health network cannot function without us. Never forget it! Let’s stand up for ourselves, our families, our fellow co-workers and the public we serve. This is about getting handle on this pandemic once and for all!

Sign the petition and let’s stand up together because, together, we rise – and together, we win.
