The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is making good on its promise to do everything it can to address both the climate crisis and health inequities by issuing new rules to reduce soot, smog, and other sources of airborne pollution that plague low-income communities.
Corporate polluters are attacking these new rules in the courts. Fossil fuel executives want to derail the climate and clean energy plan and kill clean energy jobs established by the Inflation Reduction Act.
SEIU members need to ensure we defend these climate wins by signing this petition–calling on Congress to protect the recent progress made on air pollution and clean energy.
Heat, made worse by climate change, is projected to kill and sicken more people than all other climate impacts combined. Rules to protect workers need to be revised, forcing Phoenix airport workers to labor in temps often above 110 F. Their advocacy led to a new heat ordinance passed by the city, guaranteeing workers access to rest, shade, water, and air conditioning.
